The end of winter

February is coming to an end, and with it winter, which has shown its true colors this year. Walks in the bitter cold, on frozen snow, have been our daily routine in recent weeks, as have long evenings spent on the couch in front of the fireplace.

With deerhounds, however, even a harsh winter is easier to bear. Thanks to them, I had the motivation to go for a walk regardless of the temperature outside. After such a walk, the four of them would usually take turns acting as hot water bottles, lying on the sofa as close to me as possible and warming me better than a thermal blanket. I really appreciate my Scottish dogs' resistance to the cold. Despite the sometimes really bitter sub-zero temperatures, they were always eager to go outside. There was no need to put clothes on them - deerhounds have a sufficiently thick undercoat that protects them from the cold. Thanks to this, they do not shiver from the cold and fully enjoy the charms of hiking in winter scenery.

We started the 2026 show season early – on January 11, Gaja ran for her CACIB in Gdynia. She received a beautiful description from judge Gerard Jipping, and then took 4th place in the Best Of Group finals.

In the first week of February, we took Nessie and Gaja to Budapest for a 4-day exhibition weekend covering three international exhibitions and the Eurosighthound Show 2026 specialist greyhound exhibition. Nessie made her debut in the intermediate class, where she received two CACIB certificates. Gaja received one CACIB certificate in the open class, and both received three CAC certificates and were awarded the titles of Hungarian champions. In addition, Gaja received the title of Eurosighthound Show 2026 Winner from French judge Frederick Maison.

We will remember Budapest not only for the show rings, but above all for the walks in the picturesque hills of the Castle District in Buda and the charming boulevards along the Danube in Pest.

Meanwhile, Aria's sixth birthday is approaching. To mark the occasion, she received a full package of check-ups as a gift, including an abdominal ultrasound and an echocardiogram. All the results are good, which makes me very happy, because I am counting on Aria for my breeding plans this year. Keep your fingers crossed!
